More needs to be done to contain spread of HIV Aids

Dear Editor,

I being an educated and conscious citizen of state Capital like to draw the kind attention of the citizens of the state about the rapid spread of HIV & AIDS in the society and its impact.

The Govt and agencies had already launched a awareness campaign to prevent the deadly HIV & AIDS  disease. In present day society, almost everybody knows the cause and symptom of this killer disease.

It is only a disease which can be prevented from spreading and people can keep away from the disease and make their life secured with adoption of preventive measures.

I heard Chief Minister’s speech at recently held Nyishi Elite Society Conference at Seijosa that the ratio of the HIV +ve is above 400 which was below 50 in 2007-2008 in Arunachal Pradesh. It is a very dangerous and alarming situation to the people of the state.

Will our legislators take this issue in the next Assembly session? Is not a serious issue for the students’ organizations or the civil society to take up?

The Central Government is funding crores of rupees to states to cope with this menace, but I think the funds are not properly utilized. Besides awareness campaign through print and electronic media and awareness meetings in every nook and corner of the state, there is an urgent need of wide circulation of pamphlet to all the institutes, hospitals and health care units, and bus stand etc with necessary information about HIV/AIDS and its spread, impact and preventive measures.

It is seen that the officers of the concern department are busy in buying hi-fi vehicles, construction of buildings, doings contract/supply works in the firm name of their kiths and kins which is totally hampering the objective of the motto of the Department and its fund.

I also appeal all the like-minded parents, senior citizens, elected leaders, NGOs students’ leaders and intellectuals to discourage the use of mobile phone by minor children's because the mobile phones  damages the minds of the upcoming youths to some extent and encourage sex intimation without any preventive measures which give rise to spread of the s disease.

Therefore, I appeal one and all specially health and family welfare department, Arunachal AIDS  Control Society and NGOs who are working in this field to gear up the machineries, human resources and materials for control of the killer disease or the days are not far when the Arunachal  tops the  list of the states with HIV/AIDS cases.

Yours,

Nabam Simon,

C-Sector, Itanagar

Thanks NEC

Dear Editor,

North Eastern Council, Shillong deserves appreciation for initiating prompt action in response to my complaint against implementation of Anti-erosion scheme on Tazang, Siya and Sikhe (Hong) rivers in Lower Subansiri District in Arunachal Pradesh. The Council, vide its letter No. NEC/IRGN/ARP/2K/15, dated April 19, 2020, has requested the Chief Engineer, Water Resource Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh to submit a report on the matter for further necessary action by the Council. It is also learnt, though unofficially, that the Council is deputing experts (independent) to examine the lapses in implementing the scheme.

I, in my letter to the Secretary, NEC, dated April 9, 2010, had requested him to intervene as the scheme under question was being implemented purely on ‘political considerations’ with scant regards for laid down rules and procedures. The affected persons (land donors) were neither consulted nor permission was sought before implementing the project. There are no official records to show that official formalities were followed in awarding contract works.

Rule of law demands that complainant needs to be heard before filing any report. Therefore, Chief Engineer, WRD, is requested to give me a chance to explain my position before any report is submitted to North Eastern Council. Otherwise, I may be compelled to forward my grievances to the Government of India.

I would also request the Water Resource Department, Ziro Division to explain to the public about the nature of expenditure of Rs. 60.00 lakh released as first installment in the month of 25th August 2009.

Yours,

Dr. Nani Bath

His Excellency should extend his services to rural areas too

Dear Editor,

We are lucky to have an inspirational Governor in the form of His Excellency Retd General (PVSM, AVSM) J.J Singh, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a feel good factor to have someone like him amidst us and we are assuaged by his philanthropic activities that have given a new aura to the otherwise Ceremonial post and dull atmosphere of Raj Bhavan.

But someone like me and many fellow citizens of our state who come from remotest area like Tali constituency in Kurung Kumey district, who do not have the opportunity to be a part of the finer aspect of urban life takes a big sigh every time our Excellency activities adorn the front pages of local dailies. It would have been much better if the philanthropic activities are not confined to state capital or district headquarter but spread out to other remote area like Tali, where a packet of salt cost Rs 200, Maggi Packet cost Rs 300 etc etc. In these areas, life stand still and more woes are added when the so called elected representatives start representing themselves.

Going by the media coverage’s, his Excellency portrays a “People Governor” but his portrayal will remain incomplete if it is only for the elite class or the urban populace. We sincerely appeal His Excellency start visiting the remote area of the state to gauge the real problem people are facing which shall go a long way in educating him to advise the Government in the right direction.

Yours,

Tagru Tame
